FRENCH LITERATURE AND CIVILIZATION IN TRANSLATION

What’s FREN270W?

So…you may be wondering what is Fren270W all about? First, this is a course that fulfills a general education requirement at UCONN.  Students come from all sorts of majors and minors  which is perhaps one of the greatest features.  The goal of this class is to expose students to some French literature texts that have been translated into English.  Prior knowledge in French is not necessary at all.  For me, as the teacher, I like to see my class as one where we are simply discussing a book that we’ve all read.  I’ve found that my past and current students, have created such an awesome environment where anyone can say anything! However, while we have fun in class, we must pay attention to this “W” aspect.  The emphasis of a “W” course is on the writing component.  My students typically chose their own writing topic with my approval.  We will go through several peer editing sessions together so that we can learn from each other.  This semester, I’m trying to incorporate more technology in my teaching, and this blog is one way to do it! So, to those internet surfers around the world and here, feel free to blog with us!

  2. Great initiative Nat! Have read through the various and sometimes quite unexpected comments your students and others have put here and I must admit some of the information provided is really interesting.
Hope your students are enjoying your class as much as you seem to :)
